PORTAGE COUNTY EXECUTIVE CANDIDACY STATEMENT
"I see the need to bring fiscal responsibility to Portage County and restore the county's policy making procedures back to the committees that represent every county business and property owner and not special interest groups. I will reach out for input from our communities in such areas as public safety, agriculture, business, education, health care, manufacturing, land development and real estate, technology, tourism and transportation." - John
MEET JOHN
A lifelong resident of Portage County, John Pavelski is running for Portage County executive as a citizen, not a politician. He was born here and raised in a family that has deeply invested in the local community. John has spent his entire life helping Portage County grow and prosper.

As president of Pavelski Farms in the 1980s and 1990s, John ran the local family farm. That included managing a large potato and vegetable farm in Portage and Waupaca counties, as well as planning, developing, and serving as general contractor for the largest state-of-the-art potato load-out facility in the Midwest.

After that, John served as director of operations for the highly successful local vitamin manufacturing company Ortho Molecular, the first company to break ground in the Portage County Industrial Park. That role included planning, developing, and serving as general contractor for the company’s national manufacturing and sales facility. John was also in charge of installing the computer network and interfacing accounting and production software for real-time reports.

In the early 2000s, John then started his own business, an organic poultry farm and processing and packaging facility. That successful small business produced organic, pastured, and humanely raised chickens and eggs for farmer’s markets, private customers, and high-end restaurants. He retired from that business in 2010.

John now part-time farms organic hay, works in real estate, and does workplace communications consulting. He has seven grown children and six grandchildren.
Portage County is a business and requires a leader, not a politician or a community organizer, but someone with a track record of business experience and success.
ISSUES & IMPROVEMENT
Public Safety
John will make sure public safety is always a top priority and will ensure that the Portage County Sheriff's Department has all they need to deliver the high level of service they have provided the people of Portage County since 1842. He will additionally ensure that our Emergency Medical Services Division including our Ambulance Service and Emergency Medical Responders, and our Fire Departments can continue to proudly provide high quality services to all Portage County citizens and visitors.
Implement a Constant Improvement Culture
As county executive, John will implement a constant improvement culture, by training and empowering county employees to look for ways to improve county services and reduce costs, by understanding their gifts, talents, and abilities. John will work with department leaders to position county employees where best suits them for the betterment of all involved. “I want people to love their job, even though it may be difficult at times,” John says. “When handled well, challenge is very rewarding.”
Eliminate Inefficiencies and Improve Services
“You don’t change something in one department to give another a problem, and through effective communication and common sense problem solving we can make the system operate more efficiently," says John. Over his long and successful career, John has developed the skills to eliminate and reduce much waste and inefficiency in organizations and to improve services and save money. He wants to put those skills to work for Portage County for the betterment of today’s and future generations.
Create Private Partnerships and Balanced Budget
John also plans to explore creating public-private partnerships to improve public accountability and economic health, and potentially privatize certain areas of county services.

As county executive, John will also maintain a balanced budget. “Nobody gets money for free,” he notes. Entitlement is not in his vocabulary. Suitable, pertinent, work definitely is.

“If you want something, you have to work for it,” he says. “Public programs must be cost effective in the long run and better the community. New programs, if not beneficial and fiscally sound after a trial period, should be eliminated.”
My Promise
John promises to be a bipartisan County Executive that is not connected to any special interest group and has the ability to work with all political parties and represent Portage County as a whole.
OTE JOHN PAVELSKI
APRIL 5 ELECTION
A top reason John asks for your vote is due to the many mandates coming down from the federal and state level that take our freedoms away at a local level. John believes that "We need leadership that’s going to do the best for the needs of our community and not be part of a ‘one size fits all' plan."
PORTAGE COUNTY EXECUTIVE RACE
A primary occurred on Feb. 15, 2022, and thanks to your support, John is on the ballot. He needs you to vote again on April 5, 2022, to elect him as the new Portage County Executive. His term will run for four years. Thank you for your support!
